Noble idea, but definitely annoying for any string tricks. It’s a good yo-yo to have for when your friend or girlfriend wants to play too but just sucks ass with any of your cool bearing yo-yo’s. A good yo-yo for throwing down constantly and little more. Loops decently but is too heavy to pull off a lot, it tends to snap strings in the middle of round the world or loop the loop. The string never seems like it needs to be broken in, and you may think it’s lasting awfully long until you attempt a trick other than “throw-down.” The funniest thing is to give it to an old-timer and see if they notice the difference. In my experience they either notice right away that something is wrong or think they are God’s gift to yo-yoing because it sleeps and retracts so easily. If only they’d make a ball-bearing version with a more powerful clutch that grabs at a lower RPM. Don’t bother with a Saberwing, it seems lighter and won’t sleep worth a damn before getting clutched back to your hand. You have to be pretty good at hard breakaways to pull off a trapeze, which defeats the purpose of the Saberwing/Brain “beginner yo-yo” concept.

Most people don’t like this yo-yo. Out of the box, it doesn’t sleep very long because of the annoying auto return function. I find that with the little rubber o-ring removed and a single-looped string, the Brain is actually quite nice. I can do Spirit Bomb with mine set up this way. It sleeps for about as long as a Fireball and is very quiet. It seems to sleep smoothly until it starts slowing down. I don’t like that because the Brain goes from feeling like a quality product to wobbling as bad as any dollar yo-yo. It is very easy to maintain Vaseline or whatever and works much better than I expected. If you find it cheap, I would recommend buying a few of these to tinker with. There’s even a bearing mod.
